Kevin Kaukl is founder and director of the Aspen Conservatory of Music. In addition to over a decade of experience in giving private lessons, he has taught music courses at the Irish Academy of Music in Dublin, Ireland and Shenandoah University, Virginia. He enjoys working with students of all ages and experience levels.
Through performances in the United States, Austria, Italy, and Ireland, pianist Kevin Kaukl has captivated audiences with his sensitive artistry. His recitals of the music of Beethoven have been described by the Irish pianist John O’Conor as “insightful, imaginative, and intense.”
Kaukl was a national finalist in the MTNA Steinway Young Artist Competition as a result of winning first prize in both the Washington State and Northwest Regional divisions. He was also a honored as a recipient of the 2008 Gaiety Bursary to study at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, awarded by the historic Gaiety Theatre in Dublin, Ireland. His recordings of early 20th century American music were recorded and archived under a grant by the University of Washington.
A sought-after collaborator throughout his native Washington state, he has been engaged in chamber music performances of historically marginalized composers at several important civic events, including inauguration festivities for Seattle Mayor McGinn at Seattle City Hall; the 2011 Washington State Legislative Reception for Governor Christine Gregoire; and the 23rd annual King County Martin Luther King Celebration at Seattle's historic Paramount Theatre. His solo and chamber music performances at various concert series in the High Rockies region of Colorado continue to feature a diverse and challenging repertoire.
Kevin earned a Bachelor of Music degree cum laude from the University of Washington as a student of Dr. Robin McCabe. He continued his studies under Dr. John O'Conor, receiving a Master of Music from the Royal Irish Academy of Music, and also an Artist Diploma from Shenandoah Conservatory. During graduate studies he also taught and assisted in undergraduate courses for applied piano, accompanying, class piano, and music history.
